Period 1 – PSK4U

Mr. Abdelnour’s Grade 12s will be coming in to work on their Injuries Assignment

Even before sports were televised, spectators seemed to be long fascinated with injuries, or the risk of injury on the field of play.

Today, you’ll be looking at specific injuries suffered by athletes to determine just what happened, why it happened and how the athlete would be treated in the aftermath.

Sadly, it’s not all animated athletes who are injured. You’ll need to likely use Youtube to find videos that illustrate these injuries.  With so many sports televised; you’ll find no shortage. A word of warning, the videos you will watch might be graphic in nature. If you feel uncomfortable watching them, please contact Mr. Abdelnour right away.

While researching, be sure to use subject-appropriate terminology to find relevant sources.

Our print collection does have many sources that will support your research. Use the TDSB Catalogue to find those sources, some of which will be streaming video or ebooks.

You’ll need to use APA citation for this project. We suggest you use the Laurier APA Guide, which you’ll see used in action as we create in-text citations and a References list for the videos above.

Period 2 – HSB4U1

Ms. Magson’s class will be in working on their Generations assignment. A PDF of the assignment can be found HERE.

The Advanced Placement Source would be a great resource for this assignment.

Also, the Vanier Institute of the Family provides great resources that cover families and generations across Canada.

You’ll need to use APA citation for this project.

In the Library, we suggest you use the Laurier Chicago School of Citation Guide which you’ll see used in action with Mr. Kosowan as we create footnotes and a Bibliography.

Citing a film or song will obviously be an important part of this Bibliography.

Curated Resources for Classes in the Library Today

Welcome to the Library!

Period One – PSK4U1-21

Good morning scholars,

We have an extensive collection of resources to support your studies in Mr. Abdelnour’s course.

The Library Catalogue allows you remote access (Use your AW login information) to our extensive digital resources as well as to search through our print collection. We have many print sources that cover anatomy as well as e-books and videos

The Advanced Placement Source is our most academically robust database, offering thousands of different resources for your research.

Innerbody is a U.S. based interactive website that looks at skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and the other systems that keep us all going. It’s meant to be educational, and while it does have some annoying banner ads; (Yes, those still exist) it seems to be free of malware or popups. It offers 2D and 3D perspectives on the different parts of the body and might be a good source of simple information.

A note: There are a great deal of sources online that will help with the human body. Be mindful that some are ad-filled and many sources can be ad-driven or be created for economic gain. In some cases,  you might come across sources of questionable scientific or downright false information. If you see anything about essential oils, vitamin supplements or healing magnets; I’d suggest you move on. Keep in mind the context for a source if using in your research.

Period 2 – FSF4U-21

Ms. Parsekhian’s Grade 12 French class is coming for research en français.

There’s a whole big world of French resources online, following these slides to take to you where you need to go.

French Resources

The Whole French MLA thing

You’re all crackerjack citation experts at this stage of your academic careers, right? No, well…. that’s ok. For this particular assignment, we want you to create a basic Works Cited list, or as they say… “Ouvrages Cités”

Much of the rules for MLA in English are the same in French.

  • All sources are listed in alphabetical order
  • You use a hanging indent for the 2nd/3rd lines of each citation.
  • Your title is centred, with no special font stylings.

There are some different formatting concerns to be aware of though. Namely….

  • Guillemets are used instead of Quotation Marks.
    • In Microsoft Office or Google docs, use the following codes to insert your guillemets.
      • «Alt + 174
      • »Alt + 175
  • Use the accepted format for dates. Not capitalized with proper punctuation marks.
  • Remember that when in doubt, there is not a lot of support online for MLA citation in French. The Laurier Library is working on creating a comprehensive guide to help students with their  citations en français.

Follow the slides below to see what a citation should look like, based on the sorts of resources we’ll show you today.
